Michelle M. May, LPC

Michelle M. May is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Virginia and Washington, DC, specializing in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) for individuals and couples. Michelle is the Chair of the ISTDP Core Training Program at the New Washington School of Psychiatry and has been teaching the next generation of therapists since 2019. She is also a Certified Teacher and Supervisor by the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA), providing supervision and specialized training for licensed professionals and organizations.

Michelle is also the author of the new book What I Couldn’t Tell My Therapist, which explores the transformative power of intensive therapy through the stories of three patients. More than just a book, it serves as a kind of therapy all on its own—inviting readers into a powerful emotional journey that fosters insight, compassion, and the possibility of change.
